Rarest Birds in the World

Birds are some of the most majestic creatures to grace our planet. They have this uncanny ability to create fleeting moments of beauty wherever they stand. Birds have inspired artists since the dawn of time and continue to do so today.

If you're looking to snap photos to commission a charcoal drawing of birds, you have around 18,000 species to consider. But if you want a truly breathtaking piece of art, these rare birds make fantastic subjects.

Golden Pheasant

Golden Pheasants sometimes appear in zoos around the world. However, those are typically hybrid birds. True Golden Pheasants are only native to forests in China. They have vibrant golden crests, and males usually have bright red feathers.

Unfortunately, there are only about 1,000 to 2,000 birds in the wild. Seeing them in their native habitat is rare, making sightings a magical experience.

Imperial Amazon

Also known as the "sisserou," this bird is native to the Dominican Republic. It's an endangered species with only about 50 mature individuals in the wild. Hurricanes and habitat loss have wiped out most of the population.

Take a look at photos of this bird, and it's not hard to see why the endangered status is a concern. This species is like living art. It has feathers of vibrant green, jewel-tone blue, deep purple, and more.

Stresemann's Bristlefront

This bird is the ultimate rare species. There's only a single known specimen left. Up until 2018, researchers thought that it was already extinct. But a sighting in Brazil reignited hope.

The Stresemann's Bristlefront is a burrowing bird species. It has a long tail, plush plumage, and whispy features around its beak. The males are usually charcoal gray, but the females are reddish-brown.

Inspiration Takes Flight

These are just a few birds that deserve to become fantastic art pieces. A charcoal drawing of birds is a great way to capture unique details and focus on the animal's physical attributes rather than its color. There are many more examples worth investigating. Species like the Rufous-headed Hornbill, Kakapo, Blue-Eyed Ground-Dove, and more are also worthy of being the subject of art.

Four Best Hypoallergenic Cat Breeds

A hypoallergenic cat is somewhat of a misnomer. The protein, Fel d 1, is produced in a cat’s saliva. This saliva is transmitted to the dander in cat fur and the fur itself. This fur is shed and can build up within a home. All cats have this protein, but some have it in lower quantities, which can drastically reduce the severity of an allergic reaction. Let’s take a look at a few of these breeds.

Before We Begin

It is worth noting that male cats that have been neutered produce less Fel d 1. The same is true for female cats. If you opt for either a neutered male or a female in addition to one of the breeds mentioned below, it can prove useful in lessening allergic reactions.

1. Balinese Cats

Despite the amount of fur the Balinese have, which is also referred to as a long-hair Siamese, they have less Fel d 1 protein in general. They also don’t shed much, so cleaning up after them is easy.

2. Siberian Cats

Siberian cats also have a substantial amount of fur, but they too have a lesser amount of Fel d 1 protein. A Siberian cat needs regular weekly brushing as it has a triple coat. However, Siberian cats need daily brushing when they shed seasonally.

3. Oriental Shorthair Cats

Oriental shorthair cats also come with longer fur, but they generally have short coats. Their coats are silky, and they don’t shed much. However, they should be regularly brushed to reduce shedding.

4. Javanese Cats

The Javanese is a combination of a Balinese cat and a Colorpoint Shorthair. Javanese cats have shorts coats and no undercoats, which make them ideal.

Why Hunting Seasons are Regulated

Hunting is one of the oldest past times. In the past, our ancestors relied on hunting to survive. While we have things much easier today, many enjoy the thrill of this sport and the skill required to succeed.

If you want to hunt game animals and get a custom hunting portrait, you must comply with several laws and regulations. The most important is hunting seasons. Seasons dictate when you can hunt certain animals in specific locations.

They're a normal part of the hunting sport, but have you ever wondered why seasons exist at all? In this blog, we'll dig deep to learn more about hunting seasons.

Game Conservation

The biggest reason for hunting seasons is to conserve game populations. When you look at your local hunting laws, you'll notice that seasons go beyond specific dates. The regulations also dictate what you can hunt, how many you can bag, and what tools or methods you can use!

All of those finer details are crucial to keeping the game populations thriving. Many jurisdictions plan seasons around critical nesting and mating seasons. They give game animals the chance to repopulate, ensuring that numbers thrive despite hunting activity.

Without seasons, hunters could theoretically hunt these animals into extinction in the local area. There are plenty of examples of that happening before the establishment of hunting seasons.

Ecological Conservation

This point goes along with the previous one, but its focus is centered more on the ecological impact of hunting. Hunting can have a severe effect on the biological diversity of an area. Activity can drive animals out, creating imbalances in the food chain.

That could lead to many problems, including a changing habitat, widespread migration, and more.

Fairness

Finally, hunting seasons promote fairness among hunters. Everyone wants to knab that big game animal and get a custom hunting portrait. However, not everyone has the same skills!

Seasons ensure that everyone gets the chance to see success. It levels the playing field and provides equal opportunity across the board.

Check Your Hunting Seasons

Some hunters disdain the concept of hunting seasons, but they exist for many important reasons. Before heading out on your next hunting trip, familiarize yourself with your local seasons and regulations.

Mont Saint-Michel

Located in Normandy, France, Mont Saint-Michel is a beautiful castle that is uniquely situated on a causeway island abutment. The main structure of Mont Saint-Michel dominates the skyline of the surrounding village, its commanding presence visible from both land and sea.

While visiting Mont Saint-Michel, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures as both landscape and portrait opportunities are aplenty. When you return home, you may even consider making a castle photo to painting transfer onto canvas to create an authentic memory of your visit.

Coburg Castle

Coburg Castle is located in Coburg, Germany, and this castle complex has a long and rich history in the country. The Blue Tower section of Coburg Castle dates back to the year 1230 A.D., and modern-day visitors are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding hillside and forest when ascending Coburg Castle’s various other towers, stairways, and elevated points.

How to Decorate Your Music Studio

Music studios are creative spaces where musicians, producers, and even fans of music groups can gather to write, record, and hang out. While professional studio spaces require certain décor in the form of acoustic paneling to ensure production remains tight, many studio owners choose to also include personalized art to set the mood of the studio space.

Whether you hang a custom guitar painting, include neon lights, or utilize a mix of fun music-themed posters, there are plenty of ways to decorate your music studio to make it your very own. Below are some tips to help you start adding your own style:

Hang Up Signed Memorabilia

Signed memorabilia, including photos, posters, album covers, and more can be a fun way to add some excitement to your studio. Many producers have bands sign items when they come through for recording, and these items can serve as a reminder of all of the fun projects you’ve worked on in your studio.

Have Instruments Painted

You might also consider searching out the services of an artist who specializes in custom guitar painting. While you probably don’t want to have an expensive or rare guitar painted by an artist since the instrument might lose some value, you may choose to have a mid-range guitar or bass painted instead.

When you hang up a custom-painted guitar, make sure you use the proper brackets with enough strength to secure the guitar in place. The last thing you need is for a custom-painted guitar to fall off the wall and hurt someone nearby.

Reduce Distractions

While including things like flashing lights and lasers in your studio might sound like a neat idea to recreate the concert atmosphere, keep in mind that you also need to get work done in your studio. Anything that serves as a distraction can take your focus away from writing, recording, and producing.

As such, consider mood lighting instead that can be adjusted depending on what’s taking place at the moment. If you’re done recording for the day and are just hanging out with the band and some fans, more exciting lighting can be fine. When you’re focused on meeting a deadline to finish a mix, tone down the distractions, and let your lighting be an afterthought.

How to Get the Best Pictures of Your Pets

If you're like most pet owners, you jump at every opportunity you can to take photos of your furry friend! But let's face it: Taking planned photos can be a nightmare. Most of the snaps you have are probably candid because getting your dog or cat to sit still feels impossible.

Want to learn how to get the best picture of your pets? Here are a few tips worth trying.

Get Some Help

It pays to have some extra hands. Even the most well-behaved animal will be a lot to handle if you're trying to control a camera. Get a friend or family member to help out. One person can interact with your pet while the other can start snapping away.

Plan Around Their Personality

Whether you're going to get a custom cat drawing or simply put the photo on social media, you want the picture to capture your pet's personality. Don't force anything. The best images look organic.

Whip out the camera whenever your pet is doing what they already love. It'll be easier to get a good shot. Plus, your pet will already have the distractions they need.

Focus on the Eyes

Many pet owners tend to photograph from above, but the eyes are where the magic is! Get down on your pet's level and shoot for the eyes.

Take Tons of Pictures

Don't expect to get a perfect shot with a single snap! The best practice for taking pet photos is to take hundreds of pictures in short bursts. You can sift through the options later and find the perfect image for a custom cat drawing or dog painting.

Be Gentle

This might sound obvious, but it's an important tip to remember. Your cat or dog doesn't know what you're doing. That camera or smartphone you're shoving in your cat or dog's face is foreign. Be gentle, keep your cool, and don't make too many sudden movements. The goal is to maintain peace and get your pet comfortable.

Have Plenty of Snacks Ready

Of course, have some treats at the ready! Reward your pet for their time and good behavior. If you create a positive experience, your pet will have a happy memory of the photo session.

Colored Pencil Drawing as Fine Art

Any medium can be used to create fine art — even colored pencil drawings. Fine art is defined by the skill and accomplishment of a piece and not the materials it is made of. With a few colored pencils, paper, an eraser, a sharpener and a graphite pencil, any artist can create a masterpiece of a colored pencil drawing. One could argue that a true master of their art can get by with even less.

Colored pencils offer the familiarity of a graphite pencil drawing with an unlimited range of color shading options. The process is no different than creating any other composition.

Start With the Base

Begin your composition with a pencil drawing. This will be the outline you’ll use to flesh out a full image. Take your time, and draw with light lines. This is only meant to be a guide, and much of it will not appear above your final layers. Any accidental smudges and lines outside of the main drawing can be erased.

Block out the Composition

Use your pencil outlining to block out key shapes and tones. During this step, you should take the time to organize the composition flow. Sometimes an accidental shape makes its way into the final design. Only use the graphite pencil to flesh out shades and tones.

Add Color and Layer

Start filling in the colors of the drawing. Select a primary color theme and set aside the pencils you need. Draw over the graphite shadings. A good colored pencil will blend well. Keep at it until the main imagery is fleshed out.

Use a Complementary Color

Refine your piece a bit more by finding a creative way to use the complementary color to your main color choice. Just take a look at the color wheel and find the color on the opposite side of your main color. For example if you chose yellow as the main color, try blending in purple.

Keep at it, and soon you’ll have a colored pencil work of art.
